Partnership geared towards bespoke blockchain app development and joint research & teaching initiatives

Ontology and Berlin’s Hochschule für Technik und Wirtschaft (HTW) University, have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to explore joint research and teaching initiatives, with a view to developing a number of bespoke blockchain applications.

The agreement will include the delivery of a tailored fellowship degree based on core strands of the Ontology chain such as smart contracts, token economics, and the exploration of tangible use-cases. With a strong focus on the digital economy, HTW students will have the opportunity to take part in the development of three unique Proof of Concept (PoC) projects in a bid to fight against real-world issues. The three apps include:

  • GreenVote — targeted at revamping the voting process, with a view to making it more accessible, cost-efficient, and secure;
  • Refuchain — aimed at supporting refugees and local authorities in the asylum process;
  • H2 Organizer — designed to connect households with corresponding water suppliers in a bid to make the process more secure, transparent, and efficient.

Commenting on the announcement, Andy Ji, Co-founder of Ontology said, “We are firmly committed to accelerating the delivery of blockchain education on the global stage and broadening the accessibility of meaningful course content to prospective students. Partnering with HTW gives us the platform to pursue exciting joint research and teaching initiatives while leveraging the University’s academic infrastructure to connect with students who are keen to explore the potential of decentralized technology.”

Founded in 1994, HTW is Berlin’s largest university for applied sciences with almost 14,000 students. The educational exchange will be facilitated through the Ontology Blockchain Academy arm, where Ontology will be the exclusive blockchain and Distributed Ledger Technology (DLT) provider used over the course of the academic year.

Prof. Dr.-Ing. Katarina Adam of HTW said, “We are excited to embark on this strategic partnership with Ontology, and to craft course content informed by the latest insights from one of the world’s leading blockchain platforms. The team’s unique technological expertise and developer acumen will contribute significantly to educating future generations of blockchain-proficient professionals. We are thrilled at the prospect of joint research initiatives and look forward to witnessing this partnership bear fruit in the coming years.”

“Working in conjunction with HTW University, we want to equip students with the skills necessary to thrive in this space, solve real-world problems, and carve out their own decentralized ambitions. We are delighted to give students the opportunity to partake in a fellowship degree based on the Ontology chain, where they can learn about topics such as smart contracts and token economics,” concluded Ji.
