Project introduction

Augor is a decentralized Oracle and predictive market platform that is not based on trust. Each participant in the forecasting market invests in the outcome of what will happen in the future. The person who predicts the outcome gets the profit, predicts it differently and loses it if it is wrong.

Augur Weekly Report — July 17thAugur App 1.15.0This upcoming release contains several improvements to the User Experience:Excess Categories/Tags Removed. When applying filter settings which would remove all markets within a given category or tag, those tags and categories will now be filtered out from the sub-menu. This is an effort to declutter the discovery process for markets.Sorting by Liquidity. Previously, some markets with low volume but balanced spreads were being filtered out with the liquidity sort. Now these markets will now pass the filter and will be visible within the UI.Additionally, there was an issue where; when the liquidity sort was set to include ALL SPREADS; some markets with particularly wide spreads would still be filtered out. Now all markets will display in the UI when sorting by ALL SPREADS.Augur Metrics:Pre-Finalization Markets: 354All-Time Finalized Markets: 2,179Pre-Finalization Open Interest: $278,880.58 (1,339 ETH)CASH Contract: $673,569.17 USD (3,212 ETH)ETH Price: $209.66The Closed World of Conventional Sports Betting and How BlitzPredict and Augur Can Change the GameThe Closed World of Conventional Sports Betting and How BlitzPredict and Augur Can Change the Game | Augur Prediction MarketsThe above piece from the Augur blog takes a look at the limitations and other practices that conventional sportsbooks employ to maintain their edge, and how Augur can be used to combat these, transferring value back to the consumer.BlitzPredict is a sports betting exchange built with Augur that is launching in Q4 2019. Augur Weekly Report — July ...

Augur Weekly Report — July 10thv2 Trading UIThe v2 Trading UI is barreling towards completion. A key consideration in the design of this page has been making understanding one’s risk easier without moving from one screen to another. Separate tabs within a single page will now display Open Orders, Filled Orders, and Positions.Additionally, the redesign is also wonderfully mobile-responsive. Browsing markets and checking trades and positions will be much smoother on the go.More work is to come on these pages, including integration of Multi-Collateral DAI as the denominated currency, but much of the groundwork has been laid for the redesigns.Continue to check in weekly for progress on Trading as well as other page redesigns, and for more info on the changes coming in v2.Contracts on Kovan TestnetAugur v2 Contracts have recently been deployed to the Kovan testnet and additionally a daily snapshot of the UI is now being published to v2.augur.net.Augur Turns One!body[data-twttr-rendered="true"] {background-color: transparent;}.twitter-tweet {margin: auto !important;}Augur turns one year old today 🎂 🎉 Thank you to all the community members and builders for supporting this project, we look forward to deploying v2 later this year! — @AugurProjectfunction notifyResize(height) {height = height ? height : document.documentElement.offsetHeight; var resized = false; if (window.donkey && donkey.resize) {donkey.resize(height); resized = true;}if (parent && parent._resizeIframe) {var obj = {iframe: window.frameElement, height: height}; parent._resizeIframe(obj); resized = true;}if (window.location && window.location.hash === "#amp=1" && window.parent && window.parent.postMessage) {window.parent.postMessage({sentinel: "amp", type: "embed-size", height: height}, "*");}if (window.webkit && window.webkit.messageHandlers && window.webkit.messageHandlers.resize) {window.webkit.messageHandlers.resize.postMessage(height); resized = true;}return resized;}twttr.events.bind('rendered', function (event) {notifyResize();}); twttr.events.bind('resize', function (event) {notifyResize();});if (parent && parent._resizeIframe) {var maxWidth = parseInt(window.frameElement.getAttribute("width")); if ( 500 < maxWidth) {window.frameElement.setAttribute("width", "500");}}Augur MetricsPre-Finalization Markets: 388All-Time Finalized Markets: 2,136Pre-Finalization Open Interest: $421,850.23 (1,401 ETH)CASH Contract: $966,560.47 USD (3,232 ETH)ETH Price: $299.03What Are Augur Developers Building? What Developers Are Building in the Augur Ecosystem | Augur Prediction MarketsThe latest piece on the Augur Blog documents the many products that developers are building on top of Augur. Augur Weekly Report — July 3rd

Augur Weekly Report — July 3rdContract UpdateExciting news! All items from the initial v2 Contract Audit by Zeppelin have been addressed and these changes are reflected on Github. The next, and final, major feature for the v2 contracts is support for Multi-Collateral DAI’s DSR capability.UI | Augur NodeThe v2 UI no longer contains any dependency on the legacy Augur Node. This means that the UI is now fully capable of running without a separate server, and the new middleware components for providing fast data indexing and querying wholly in-browser are working. The team has also implemented a host of new login methods for v2, including Portis, And is actively working on implementing a brand new Market Creation flow designed to reduce errors in market specification at creation time.Augur MetricsPre-Finalization Markets: 398All-Time Finalized Markets: 2,119Pre-Finalization Open Interest: $427,595.52 (1,420 ETH)CASH Contract: $1,074,836.45 USD (3,611 ETH)ETH Price: $297.58Links:Augur.netThe Ultimate Guide to Decentralized Prediction MarketsAugur v2: A Tour of the Prediction Protocol’s First Major UpgradeAnnouncing the Augur v1 CutoffDefeating Augur’s Largest AttackBlitzPredict — Weekly UpdateThe Forecast Foundation has no role in the operation of markets, trades or actions created or performed on the Augur protocol, nor does it have the ability to censor, restrict, control, modify, change, revoke, terminate or make any changes to markets created on the Augur protocol. Augur Weekly Report — June ...

Augur Weekly Report — June 19thDevelopment UpdateThe team has started working on Sprint 10, endearingly termed Jubilant Jujube. As mentioned previously, the team has a variety of goals for this sprint and all are progressing well.An exciting piece of news is that as of last week, the Augur UI in the v2 monorepo successfully loads and syncs data from the chain; and provides that data to the UI for the trading page. This key step has been the focus of an initial “UI Bootstrap” phase that was in progress during Sprint 9.Sprint 10 high Level Roadmap:Complete improvements to V1 Liquidity Sort / FiltersComplete changes/improvements from initial V2 AuditsComplete integration of the Trading page with the v2 MiddlewareComplete Market Creation DesignComplete V2 Reporting DesignBegin integration of the Account page with v2 middlewareBegin integration of PortfolioBegin the UI implementation of new Market Creation flows for v2Continue work on V2 documentation auto-generation from codebasesCheck out the Jubilant Jujube to track these issues as well as the detailed work going into getting them complete.Augur MetricsPre-Finalization Markets: 398All-Time Finalized Markets: 2,083Pre-Finalization Open Interest: $445,712.87 (1,653 ETH)CASH Contract: $1,028,218.06 USD (3,828 ETH)ETH Price: $268.59Margin Lending with bZxbody[data-twttr-rendered="true"] {background-color: transparent;}.twitter-tweet {margin: auto !important;}Margin Lending on Augur v2 with @b0xNet https://t.co/TXiaTyBved — @AugurProjectfunction notifyResize(height) {height = height ? height : document.documentElement.offsetHeight; var resized = false; if (window.donkey && donkey.resize) {donkey.resize(height); resized = true;}if (parent && parent._resizeIframe) {var obj = {iframe: window.frameElement, height: height}; parent._resizeIframe(obj); resized = true;}if (window.location && window.location.hash === "#amp=1" && window.parent && window.parent.postMessage) {window.parent.postMessage({sentinel: "amp", type: "embed-size", height: height}, "*");}if (window.webkit && window.webkit.messageHandlers && window.webkit.messageHandlers.resize) {window.webkit.messageHandlers.resize.postMessage(height); resized = true;}return resized;}twttr.events.bind('rendered', function (event) {notifyResize();}); twttr.events.bind('resize', function (event) {notifyResize();});if (parent && parent._resizeIframe) {var maxWidth = parseInt(window.frameElement.getAttribute("width")); if ( 500 < maxWidth) {window.frameElement.setAttribute("width", "500");}}From the blog post:Margin lending is an important element on many financial exchanges letting traders get leverage (magnify positions) or go short (bet against an asset by borrowing and selling it), while letting lenders earn interest on their assets. The net effect is that it can help increase a market’s liquidity. In the case of Augur, margin prevents liquidity from becoming fragmented across multiple markets by letting users magnify existing positions via margin rather than needing to trade in or create separate markets on the same outcomes to increase exposure. This can amplify the network effects of liquidity.Hit the link above to read in full and for more context, check out bZx’s writeup on the topic.Whiteboard Series with NEAR Protocol: AugurThe Whiteboard Series with Near features interviews with developers of influential blockchain projects. Augur Weekly Report — June ...

Augur Weekly Report — June 12thDevelopment UpdateThis week the Product, Design, and Dev teams are finishing up tasks scheduled for Sprint 9 — Ignoble Iceberg Lettuce. During this sprint the team leads have been working on putting together a roadmap for the upcoming months as work continues toward v2. The goal of this roadmap will be to identify the high level features needing work, and make sure an internal cadence is established. While working though product roadmaps may be exciting to some of us, for the rest of the world there is indeed actually exciting news! The team has received the first round of feedback from the Augur v2 audits being performed by Zeppelin. The audits identified a number of potential issues, and the team is actively evaluating the feedback and implementing solutions to the problems. This round of cleanups is expected to last a couple of weeks — at which point the development team will publish the first public deployment of Augur v2 onto the Kovan testnet. The Kovan testnet deploy will be a pre-alpha deploy designed to help the dev team coordinate on integration work. However, the monorepo containing all the v2 code will be updated with those deployed contract addresses; and there will be Docker images published for the UI. For those of you who are eager to see how Augur v2 will work on a contract level, or want to see how things go with a shared instance for testing, this deployment will be a good time to dip a toe into the water.Over the next two weeks the team expects to accomplish the following major tasks:Complete improvements to v1 Liquidity Sort / FiltersComplete changes/improvements from initial v2 AuditsComplete integration of the Trading page with the v2 MiddlewareComplete Market Creation DesignComplete v2 Reporting DesignBegin integration of the Account page with v2 middlewareBegin integration of PortfolioBegin the UI implementation of new Market Creation flows for v2Continue work on v2 documentation auto-generation from codebasesFollow our sprints in Github Issues, and as always come to Discord and ask questions!Augur MetricsPre-Finalization Markets: 444All-Time Finalized Markets: 2,031Pre-Finalization Open Interest: $582,014.81 (2,261 ETH)CASH Contract: $1,161,314.73 USD (4,511 ETH)ETH Price: $257.43Augur App Release v1.14.2In Augur App v1.14.2, the invalid filter now enforces a minimum return on investment. Augur Weekly Report — June 5th

Augur Weekly Report — June 5thDevelopment UpdateDefeating Augur's Largest Attack | Augur Prediction MarketsIn the last week, the team has released new versions with a suite of changes that will render invalid market attacks obsolete and incentivize highly liquid markets. You can read the post above in full for further context, but here is an excerpt from the writeup:We believe that these changes will make Invalid market scams a losing game and ultimately obsolete. Invalid market scammers will face a choice: seek a new exploit, leave Augur, or start creating valid markets and contributing productive liquidity (it appears the most prolific Invalid market creator on Augur has already creating some valid markets). Either way, it’s a win. If they find a new exploit, we can counteract it before Augur hits primetime. If they redirect their skills at making valid markets, even better. In the high-stakes face-off between a protocol and its exploiters, one invaluable edge that Augur has is a community of thousands of people the world over who are excited about the project and want it to succeed. The community has been instrumental in helping develop and refine some of these solutions. In particular, we owe a big shoutout to the folks in the #game-theory channel on the Augur Discord. We also recognize numerous members of the Augur community who have gone out of their way to educate others on the risk of Invalid markets and in some cases to even front run scammers. Augur Weekly Report — May 29th

Augur Weekly Report — May 29thDevelopment UpdateIn the last week, the team has been continuing work on Heretical Honeydew, with the goal being completion the first phase of middleware integrate with the UI. This would unlock the ability for the UI to become integrated with the new v2 contracts. At the same time, the design team is moving ahead and re-thinking how the whole UI works for V2.Work has been going down three parallel paths:Design has been concentrating on building new Market Cards — the component which displays all the relevant information about markets. The new designs incorporate all the things learned in V1; including scaling to all display sizes, allowing call-outs per market, and other details. Many hours have also gone into a revamped market creation flow. The over-all goal of the new flow is to make it super easy for people to make high quality markets, by better walking people through the process. The UI team has taken the last two weeks to dive head-first into the tumultuous process of converting the UI to typescript. Moving to typescript will speed up future development and reduce errors. Also, since the new middleware is completely typescript, including all external interfaces — the UI devs are able to take advantage of the full typescript stack immediately. Alongside this, there’s been an effort to re-factor components in the app and to move the entire UI codebase over to the newer style guide. In the last three weeks, the backend/middleware team has been working to get everything in order for the UI team to begin implementing new UI designs in the v2 framework. The first attempts at this were a little bit shaky, and the team pulled back slightly; focusing on defining the major pieces of the API necessary to build the trading page. The end of this sprint will see all pieces necessary to support the trading page being completed or being very near completion.Additionally, work to improve the quality of the main market list by allowing filtering by liquidity has been in progress. A release with a new algorithm for a liquidity sort will be coming in the next few days.Starting next sprint we will be moving to a new internal versioning scheme for all v2 work. The current chunk of integration preparation has been labelled “v2.0a.” Next week, the UI and Backend teams will be working together to begin “v2.0b,” which will be another internal release focused on getting the Trading, Account, and Portfolio pages working with the v2 contracts and middleware. We expect to settle into a bi-weekly cadence at that point.Check out what’s happening this sprint on Github — and as always, file bugfixes, suggestions, and join the Augur Discord to interact with the community about where Augur can go next.Augur MetricsPre-Finalization Markets: 455All-Time Finalized Markets: 1,985Pre-Finalization Open Interest: $530,111.04 (1,945 ETH)CASH Contract: $1,105,611.76 USD (4,055 ETH)ETH Price: $272.61Joey Krug Joins Base Layer PodcastBase LayerYou can follow the above link for an invigorating conversation on Augur and the broader crypto ecosystem.Links:Augur.netThe Ultimate Guide to Decentralized Prediction MarketsAugur v2: A Tour of the Prediction Protocol’s First Major UpgradeAnnouncing the Augur v1 CutoffToken Summit: State of Prediction Markets (Better Quality Video)BlitzPredict — Weekly UpdateThe Forecast Foundation has no role in the operation of markets, trades or actions created or performed on the Augur protocol, nor does it have the ability to censor, restrict, control, modify, change, revoke, terminate or make any changes to markets created on the Augur protocol. Augur Weekly Report — May 22nd

Augur Weekly Report — May 22ndDevelopment UpdateLast week, the team put the finishing touches on the latest sprint, Geriatric Garlic. During that time progress was made in creating the new v2 API layer, a UI was released with messaging to aid in understanding v2 , and some cleanups were made to the UI codebase. All this happened while the design team has been making progress on a new Market List view for v2 and simultaneously is researching and designing a new market creation flow. This week, the team has moved onto the current sprint Heretical Honeydew. During this sprint, the design team will be continuing their work on Market Lists, Market Creation, and moving into re-designing the Reporting UIs for the v2 release. The over-arching goal is to have a functional trading UI on the v2 contracts, using the all-new v2 SDK, by the end of the sprint! With this complete, the UI and backend teams will begin integrating the UI and the v2 contracts — moving all current work toward v2 release.Check out the current sprint on Github!Augur MetricsPre-Finalization Markets: 529All-Time Finalized Markets: 1,936Pre-Finalization Open Interest: $429,052.28 (1,795 ETH)CASH Contract: $981,299.39 USD (4,025 ETH)ETH Price: $243.75Augur v1 Cutoff: What It Means for Traders, Market Creators & ReportersAugur v2 - A Tour of the Prediction Protocol's First Major Upgrade | Augur Prediction MarketsAn Augur v1 market cutoff date has been selected to facilitate the transition to Augur v2. All markets that expire (enter reporting) before this time will be waited on to resolve (complete reporting) before v2 is launched, while markets that expire post-cutoff may resolve after v2 is launched. You can read more about the cutoff and its implications on traders, reporters, and market creators by following the above link.Augur App Release v1.13.0 & v1.13.1AugurProject/augur-app🎉 Includes significant messaging to describe Augur’s v2 launch process, the cut-off date after which markets will no longer be guaranteed to resolve prior to v2 launch, and how users can handle their currently open positions and orders as v2 approaches.📚 The release also includes a new default filter on the markets page that hides markets which have large spreads on their order book. But…🔮 Some issues were found with the spread filter! The newest from a recent hackathon is Defisurance, which will soon allow anyone to insure their ETH locked into various de-fi services against hacks. Alternatively, investors can fund the insurance pool and earn a return! In their own words:defisurance makes it easy to get insurance from hacks in decentralized finance protocols like Compound, dYdX, and Dharma .defisurance works by letting you purchase Augur market bets that pay off if a decentralized finance contract is successfully hacked. These bets can then be sold to recover some or all of the balance you hold in the hacked decentralized protocol.Protocol developers can also use defisurance to directly cover some or all of their user’s balances. defisurance makes it easy for protocols to pay out to their users automatically when a hack is detected.Links:Augur.netThe Ultimate Guide to Decentralized Prediction MarketsAugur v2: A Tour of the Prediction Protocol’s First Major UpgradeAugur as Wikipedia for MarketsAugurLite Follow UpBlitzPredict — Weekly UpdateThe Forecast Foundation has no role in the operation of markets, trades or actions created or performed on the Augur protocol, nor does it have the ability to censor, restrict, control, modify, change, revoke, terminate or make any changes to markets created on the Augur protocol. Augur Weekly Report — May 15th

Augur Weekly Report — May 15thDevelopment UpdateThe Forecast Foundation dev team is back at it again, working hard on the current sprint, Geriatric Garlic. The work in this sprint has focused on the usual suspects, but developers have also been moved around to focus on some interesting parts of the project. To begin, last week the hard call was made to pull back on the early release of the new UI redesign, and to incorporate it into the v2 release instead. While this was a little disappointing for those working to get it shipped, it gave them a chance to redirect efforts at the long process of integrating with the V2 contracts, as well as to begin in earnest at making the v2 middleware API. A significant portion of the team has been working on the latter during this sprint. The following work is being completed:Consolidating new log processing, API Server (both in browser and standalone), High Level APIs, and API connectors that handle working with different API servers. This new module is called @augurproject/sdk and it will be the one-stop shop for developers to interact with augur.Creating a semi-functioning build for the legacy Augur Node that can read data from the v2 contracts in the new formats. This new code uses the same backend as the middleware re-write, which is based on ethers.js.Began gutting the UI and preparing for the new integration points in @augurproject/sdk.Done an absolutely massive amount of changes to the way the Continuous Integration and testing systems operate. All Augur systems are now run through Microsoft Azure CI, and are being tuned and optimized to make this as fast as possible for the dev team. While this work is underway, a small portion of the UI team has spent some time finishing up most of the work for the final few builds of Augur App. The plan is to release this build later this week or early next week. It will include some new filtering and sorting, designed to help people understand markets which are likely to be invalid, as well as new messaging regarding the v2 launch plan. As for contracts? DAI Savings Rate support has been completed and has just finished code review.Check out the Github milestone for Geriatric Garlic for more information.Augur MetricsPre-Finalization Markets: 529All-Time Finalized Markets: 1,887Pre-Finalization Open Interest: $533,631.39 (1,983 ETH)CASH Contract: $1,146,117.21 USD (4,262 ETH)ETH Price: $268.89The State of Prediction Markets and Crypto in 2019 with Joey Krughttps://medium.com/media/7c06918646a6e510078cec36ac0c9f28/hrefJoey joined Erik Torenberg on the Venture Stories podcast hosted by Village Global to talk all things Augur and the learnings since launching nearly one year ago. Augur Weekly Report — May 8th

Augur Weekly Report — May 8thDevelopment UpdateThe Dev team has started working on Sprint 7 (Geriatrich Garlic). Unfortunately, some issues arose during the lead up to the planned UI redesign release which convinced us it was best to hold off on releasing the update. What this means is the dev team is now moving on to integration between The redesigned UI, the Augur SDK middleware (renamed from Augur State) and the v2 contracts.Progress will be slow during this sprint as all of the integration work begins to test the hypothesis of how the software will come together. The first step this week is to get the UI trading flows working with the v2 contracts! What’s Exciting, however, is that Zeppelin has officially begun audits of the V2 contracts! This is an important step toward a full understanding of any new attack surface exposed in the contract changes. Also, the changes needed to support the Dai Savings Rate are under development and planned to be finished this week. Augur Weekly Report — May 1st

Augur Weekly Report — May 1stDevelopment UpdateThe dev team is in the midst of the current sprint, Flabbergasted Fig.The UI team has finished up all pending redesign implementation tasks and has entered into a phase of testing the various features as a team. During this time they’re evaluating performance, user experience, and understanding any improvements that can be made in the planned improvements release that will immediately follow. One can play with the new redesigns now on the public testnet site: try.augur.net.To support this integration the middleware team has been completing updates to the Augur Node component, which provides new rich data for the redesign Trading, Portfolio, and Accounts pages. Most importantly there are updates to Profit and Loss calculation, a brand new set of business logic to show users “Frozen Funds” (#1869) and bug fixes for when users trade with themselves (#1849, #1852).The team is using this update as a chance to firm up our Augur V2 Migration Plans. And last but not least, in a very exciting announcement, The Forecast Foundation has engaged with Zeppelin to perform V2 Contract Audits!Augur MetricsPre-Finalization Markets: 540All-Time Finalized Markets: 1,811Pre-Finalization Open Interest: $350,587.78 (2,192 ETH)CASH Contract: $737,515.92 USD (4,538 ETH)ETH Price: $162.52Augur Master PlanAugur Master PlanThe Augur Master Plan, written by Joey Krug, is nearly two years old. Augur Weekly Report — April...

Augur Weekly Report — April 24thDevelopment Update:This week the development team has begun work on Flabbergasted Fig. Several goals for the near term have been established:Goal one is to get the much anticipated UI Redesign out into an Augur App release. Earlier this week the team merged down all the work in progress code onto master for Augur UI. This means that the fruit of all the redesign work from the last few months is finally available on our public testnet site: try.augur.net. While the UI team is cleaning up the last of styling and performance issues, the product team is completing testing. Only a few issues remain, and the hope is there will be a release candidate within days followed by an actual release toward the end of next week. In the meantime, be on the look out for some blog posts and updates about the new UI.Now that the contracts are largely complete and entering the auditing process, the backend team has been coding day and night to get the current Augur UI implementation to work in the V2 monorepo. The UI will begin by working with a modified Augur Node that can partially handle the V2 contracts, and will then get moved over to the new Augur State middleware component. Alongside the work to get the UI functioning with the new contracts, the backend team is also improving Augur State and getting it ready with the APIs necessary for the UI and third parties to interact with Augur markets.Along with these goals, some work is going into evaluating how to integrate SDAI into the Augur ecosystem, and evaluating whether or not the currently implemented method of allowing for paying for transactions with DAI may be simplified by using and implementation of a Safe.Check back in next week for the next dev update, and as always, feel free to stop by the Augur Discord and let us know what you think.Augur Metrics:Pre-Finalization Markets: 573All-Time Finalized Markets: 1,759Pre-Finalization Open Interest: $413,647.87 (2,516 ETH)CASH Contract: $851,877.09 USD (5,187 ETH)ETH Price: $164.23Augur as Wikipedia for MarketsAugur v2 - A Tour of the Prediction Protocol's First Major Upgrade | Augur Prediction MarketsBen Davidow is back with another piece highlighting the similarities between Augur and Wikipedia in terms of decentralized information extraction. Augur Weekly Report — March...

Augur Weekly Report — March 20thDevelopment Update:The team has been working through issues on the current sprint, Cantankerous Cabbage, while beginning to plan out work for the next two weeks in Diabiolical Dewberry. Each of the three teams is progressing towards integration work for upcoming release of the re-designed Trading, Portfolio, and Account UIs, as well as longer term integration work with the V2 contracts. The design team has been putting a lot of focus on polishing and improving all mobile designs. This work will feed into the UI development pipeline over the next sprint — allowing them to bring all newly redesigned views to both mobile and desktop. At the same time, they are supporting the UI team’s efforts in polishing the current UI.The UI team has been putting the finishing touches on the desktop versions of the Portfolio and Account summary pages. They’re beginning the process of battening down the hatches in advance of a beta release in the coming weeks. This week they’ve handed the reins to the backend team so that Augur Node can feed the UI the right sets of data for the new UIs. They will be doing more polishing, bug fixing, and beginning performance improvements while awaiting the mobile designs and backend data work. The backend and middleware team have shifted gears for a short period of time to support the work necessary to release the three newly polished interfaces the design and UI teams have been working on over the previous three sprints. While most of the team has been concentrated on supporting the aforementioned work, progress has also been made on integrating the current Augur UI with the new Augur State middleware components as well as preparing test infrastructure. If you’re interested in seeing more information on the progress and tasks, please check out the Augur UI Repo, Augur Monorepo and the the current sprint’s issues.Augur Metrics:Pre-Finalization Markets: 522All-Time Finalized Markets: 1,626Pre-Finalization Open Interest: $301,987.68 (2,172 ETH)CASH Contract: $551,424.80 USD (3,943 ETH)ETH Price: $139.82Links:Prediction Market Resolution — A Risk AnalysisBlitzPredict — Weekly UpdateVeil — Weekly UpdateThe Forecast Foundation has no role in the operation of markets, trades or actions created or performed on the Augur protocol, nor does it have the ability to censor, restrict, control, modify, change, revoke, terminate or make any changes to markets created on the Augur protocol. Augur Weekly Report — March...

Augur Weekly Report — March 13thDevelopment Update:During the past few weeks the Augur product, design, and dev teams all came together to work on the 2nd sprint of our new 2-week development cycle: Belligerent Banana. During this sprint the teams closed a combined 67+ issues spanning 3 repositories! Continuing with the three major initiatives team members worked on the designing updated portfolio, account, and reporting views; implementing those designs on the front end; and building new middleware and backend infrastructure, along with v2 contracts. The current sprint, Cantankerous Cabbage, continues to build on this work. The design team gained a new member, Cillian Hunter, who will be helping on all aspects of product and visual design. The larger team has been working on mobile-focused visual design for all new pages on the reference UI — focusing on the Portfolio and Accounts views — and bringing that work back into the upcoming trading page. This work is being done in concert with the development team to iterate quickly and create a detailed and usable reference UI. In parallel, the team has been researching what is needed to improve the experience of the market reporting flows leading up to the reporting redesign project; which will begin in earnest during the upcoming sprint, Diabolical Dewberry. The UI team absolutely flew through issues during the last sprint! They got nearly every feature complete on the upcoming new portfolio view and account summaries. These new views bring everything you need to trade on Augur markets into one place; including a totally redesigned notifications section which makes it easy to claim fees, claim proceeds, track unsigned orders, and more. All of this is being done while working toward a lovely component-based framework that can be used to build other rich UIs for Augur quickly. The middleware and contracts team has been diligently working on a variety of aspects of improving data syncing, including performance testing our newly designed synchronization algorithm against a variety of Ethereum nodes and providers. The team found major improvements in overall speed of retrieving data with simple tweaks like making sure Ethereum nodes serve data gzipped over HTTP. Unfortunately, all tests still point to poor performance when fetching many blocks worth of logs from light clients, showing response times of 8–10x that of an average full node. More will will be done to optimize this case in the future. The contracts have received significant work over the last couple weeks as well, including support for “K.Y.C.”d order books, and support for paying for transactions with DAI. Through this sprint the team will be working on implementing an important new feature, a recurring market to act as a REP price feed. It is expected that all major feature work for the contracts will be completed in its first phase over the next few weeks, where the team will begin to start supporting integration work for the middleware team.If you’re interested in seeing the work that is completed during this sprint please check out the current milestone, Cantankerous Cabbage.Augur Metrics:Pre-Finalization Markets: 542All-Time Finalized Markets: 1,555Pre-Finalization Open Interest: $229,195.16 (1,721 ETH)CASH Contract: $811,154.18 USD (6,092 ETH)ETH Price: $133.15Links:Veil — Create Your Own Prediction MarketThe Forecast Foundation has no role in the operation of markets, trades or actions created or performed on the Augur protocol, nor does it have the ability to censor, restrict, control, modify, change, revoke, terminate or make any changes to markets created on the Augur protocol. Augur Weekly Report — February 27thDevelopment Update:During the last week the Forecast Foundation has worked to complete the first sprint of the new bi-weekly development structure, which was affectionately named Arrogant Artichoke. This sprint was a huge success during which the Augur UI, the Augur Middleware/State Management APIs, and the Augur v2 contracts initiatives made major progress.Product / DesignThe design team has been moving forwarding with evaluating the design of the reporting pages to make them easier to understand. At the same time they’ve been polishing the trading, portfolio, and account pages with the development team doing implementation in lock-step. They’ve also been working on new concept designs to help display the vast amount of information on the new pages in a way that is digestible on mobile devices.Augur UIThe UI team has been working on finishing up small issues to complete the redesign of the trading page experience. Among numerous small improvements and polish, they’ve completed a huge refactor of all all graphs in the system making them much easier to read and more flexible. In addition to this they’ve continued to work on the details of the upcoming portfolio and account pages. These new pages include all the necessary data to understand trading positions and reporting state from an Augur user perspective.Augur Middleware / ContractsThe middleware team has been continuing work on creating a new Augur State component. The goal of this component is to bring all of the data needed to interact with Augur into the browser. Major tasks completed in the last week include a totally overhauled full-text search, building code that keeps Augur state up to date with the newest blocks, and beginning on the new public APIs. At the same time the contract team has been going nuts in the last few weeks and got a ton done, including doing full profit/loss calculations on chain, implementing affiliate fees, and being able to change the order price without re-submitting orders. For the next two weeks the team will be working within our current sprint, Beligerant Banana.Augur Metrics:Pre-Finalization Markets: 587All-Time Finalized Markets: 1,449Pre-Finalization Open Interest: $611,500.72 (4,460 ETH)CASH Contract: $805,862.11 USD (5,837 ETH)ETH Price: $138.04Please note: Previously, the OI was recorded from Predictions.Global, which included unclaimed finalized OI in its calculation. Augur Community Bounties

The Forecast Foundation and the Augur community is excited to launch additional bounties for Augur tooling and infrastructure. Thus far, the network of developers, front-ends, dashboards and more have all grown and developed organically; allowing for peer-to-peer prediction markets to take many unique forms. This bounty initiative will seek to further that expansion by encouraging developers in building applications and tooling that improve the usability, growth, and effectiveness of the Augur platform. Now is your chance to get acclimated with the development team, community, and code — while earning a bounty, improving the ecosystem, and beginning your own project! The Procedure:1. The Forecast Foundation and the “Smarty Pants” group of Augur Discord users will specify requests for external Augur tooling and applications on the Augur Community Bounties Github issue. Applicants are also encouraged to submit ideas for apps, projects, and additional tooling that are not explicitly outlined in this initiative on the same Github issue.2. Applicants will write a short response detailing their experience, vision, proposed milestones and timetable, and plans for building out the project on the public GitHub issue.3. Applications for each project will be open for (7) days. The Foundation and Smarty Pants group will review each application and promptly approve, deny, or request more information. The 7 day period begins Friday, February 22nd, 2019 at 5:00PM PT, and ends the following Friday, March 1st, 2019 at 5:00PM PT.4. Upon the completion of the (7) day public application process, the Foundation and Smarty Pants group will set the top three teams or persons for each submission, where number 1 has initial priority, number 2 second, and number 3 third.5. Developers who have been selected as the number 1 team for initial priority will be required to have deliverables by a certain date, else the team or person defaults on the bounty and it gets passed to the next team in line. If you submitted your own project or idea, its eligibility will be determined using the same criteria as the example projects below.6. Upon completion of the project and by approval of the Forecast Foundation and the Smarty Pants group, the bounty will be complete and paid out to the submitting team or persons.“Smarty Pants” is a group of independent, community individuals who have proven their extensive knowledge of Augur in the Discord chat. They are the moderators of the Augur Discord, and will be assisting in this initiative as an unbiased control group outside of the Forecast Foundation.Project Ideas:- Consumable Glossary: Take the Augur Glossary (in the Augur Docs) and create some sort of crash course / means of digesting and consuming the terms, with clean deep-linking to important concepts. Augur Weekly Report — Febru...

Augur Weekly Report — February 20thDevelopment Update:In the last week the dev team has been cranking away on issues for the Angry Artichoke milestone. The team is still working on the major initiatives described last week, and some really good progress has been made in all areas. The current plans should give us solid footing on UI redesign tasks as well as finalizing major portions of Augur V2 development over the next few weeks.Product / DesignThe design team has finished the new designs for the upcoming Account and Portfolio pages. The goal of these pages will be to communicate a users’ position, their current risk, and allow them to interact with important parts of the system in a consistent way. This work was immediately handed off to the UI Dev team for implementation. Beginning this week Design has started focusing on the reporting user-experience design. Over the next sprint they will continue working on reporting pages, as well as verifying current designs for mobile and making changes as needed.UI DevelopmentThe UI team focused the first half of this sprint on finishing up tasks for the Trading page redesign. This includes some exciting items like brand new charts for profit and loss and price history. Work on the trading page has been almost fully completed, and most of the team has moved on to implementing new re-usable components that will be used to put together all redesigned pages.Middleware / BackendThe middleware and backend teams have been continuing development on their efforts to make an in-browser state component design to replace the Augur Node server. In the last week they’ve sketched out a large amount of the overall design, including exactly how we will store and index data, and how to handle reorgs efficiently while keeping the application responsive. For reliability this comes with a whole new testing framework from the start so all new development is supported by new tests.ContractsThe contracts team and game theorists are continuing the tasks laid out for Augur V2. During the last week three major code changes have been submitted and are still in first level review. These changes include exciting new features like fast resolution and the ability to update orders.Augur Metrics:Pre-Finalization Markets: 595 (+5)All-Time Finalized Markets: 1,413 (+29)Pre-Finalization Open Interest: $664,490.47 (4,537 ETH)CASH Contract: $899,691.36 USD (6,060 ETH)ETH Price: $148.46Please note: Previously, the OI was recorded from Predictions.Global, which included unclaimed finalized OI in its calculation. Augur Weekly Report — February 13thDevelopment Update:Over the past few weeks the developers for Augur have been re-organizing around three major initiatives.Designing new UI concepts that will be added to our Reference UI. These changes are taking into account a lot of feedback we’ve gotten about the usability of various features of this UI, and begin to establish best practices for communicating complex information to users. Many of these changes will be integrated into the current V1 release and will be usable with the current contracts.Implementing the new UI designs beginning with a new Trading interface, and now expanding into a redesigned Portfolio page which will make it much easier to understand what shares a user holds, as well as the states of the markets in which a user is participating. We’ve broken out tasks for each of these three major pages, and will be scheduling their development over the next four weeks. Pipelined with this developers are creating re-usable components that simplify building new UIs with the goal of having them be re-usable both within our reference UI, but to simplify third party developers building UIs that can speak to the Augur contracts. The backend team is working hard on very exciting developments with the Augur V2 contracts. These contracts have been successfully changed to support using DAI (technically, any ERC-20/777 token) as collateral. These changes come along with a myriad of internal changes to our testing infrastructure for contracts. Backend development is now well underway for a new concept for Augur Node, which is a fully in-browser solution for supporting the UI. This new code is in its early stages but developers have been concentrating on how to speed up synchronization, how to keep all state within a browser session, and how to maintain reliability through reorgs while keeping data updated as new blocks are generated. In order to check out these changes (and SOON all Augur development) please follow the new monorepo which has been built to contain all of the pieces of the Augur codebase — making it much easier to get up and running for anyone looking to integrate with Augur. Each week there are a number of changes which will all be completed, so if you’re interested in the low-level details of what’s being working try taking a look at out current milestone: Arrogant Artichoke [UI V1 Issues] to see a summary of all that has been completed recently.Augur Metrics:Pre-Finalization Markets: 590All-Time Finalized Markets: 1,384Pre-Finalization Open Interest: $572,425.34 (4,575 ETH)CASH Contract: $864,094.64 USD (6,946 ETH)ETH Price: $124.39Please note: Previously, the OI was recorded from Predictions.Global, which included unclaimed finalized OI in its calculation. Augur Weekly Report — January 9thDevelopment Update:This past week the Forecast Foundation has been working on:-Finishing an initial implementation for allowing Augur to sync with the blockchain more quickly by importing database snapshots-Continuing implementation of the trading page redesign and finalizing the last remaining mocks-Testing and finalizing the new code for calculating profit & loss-Updating the smart contracts with more v2 changesAugur Metrics:Markets: 1,724Open Interest: $2,040,934.63 USD (13,451 ETH)CASH Contract: $1,896,284.45 USD (12,498 ETH)ETH Price: $151.72Veil Mainnet LaunchIntroducing VeilVeil is coming to Mainnet next Tuesday, January 15th. The platform leverages 0x and a unique feature set to augment Augur markets. In their own words:Veil makes trading faster and cheaper. Ethereum transactions are slow, so we’ve used the 0x protocol to speed up trading and minimize the number of transactions you need to send. Veil order creation and cancellation happens off-chain, and Veil pays gas to persist trades to Ethereum.Veil helps you get paid faster. Augur’s decentralized oracle system ensures markets are resolved correctly, and it’s a necessary component of a trustless network. But the finalization process can take weeks to complete. Veil introduces a feature for supported markets we call instant settlement. That means you can redeem your Augur shares for ETH as soon as the market expires. Veil has high confidence that the markets will be reported on and settled correctly, so we let you sell your Augur shares to Veil immediately at the reported price rather than waiting for finalization in Augur. Instant settlement is optional, but the idea is to let you choose your own level of trustlessness. You can sign-up now in anticipation of launch as well as fund your account. On January 15th, you’ll be able to trade on a limited number of markets; cryptocurrency prices, hash rate and gas price derivatives, and the Academy Awards; on Veil, Veil Pro, or Veil API.Links:A Crypto Thesis — Joey KrugGuesser — Market Creation GuidelinesAugur Needs Your EyeballsAugurScoreCross Chain Swaps Using AugurReminder, the Forecast Foundation has no role in the operation of markets, trades or actions created or performed on the Augur protocol, nor does it have the ability to censor, restrict, control, modify, change, revoke, terminate or make any changes to markets created on the Augur protocol.
